The Red River Market: More than a Farmers’ Market

The Red River Market: More than a Farmers’ Market

Posted by Jack "Mac" Machacek on Aug 9th 2019

As you may or may not know, this week happens to be National Farmers’ Market Week, and we see that as a perfect opportunity to highlight The Red River Market, the pride and joy of Fargo-Moorhead’s summer weekends. If you aren’t familiar, it is a collection of farmers, makers, vendors, and friendly folk that takes place every Saturday from 10-2 between the months of July and October. Its current location is 63 5th St N Fargo, ND, only two blocks from our place of business! Now, the Red River Market is a Farmers’ Market in the most basic sense, but it is also so much more than that, and today we are going to discuss why!

Vendors

The vendors at the Red River Market sell a much larger variety of products than you would ever find at a standard farmers’ market or possibly anywhere else in town. From farm-grown veggies, to specialty drinks, to Egyptian food, you can find plenty of anything, right in the heart of downtown. And if that is not enough, the vendors themselves are some of the nicest people you may ever meet. Dedicated and passionate, they are happy to be there and can make some great conversation.

Entertainment

If you are just looking for something to pass the time on a Saturday, then the Red River Market is it. Whether just walking around, enjoying the great weather, or watching some quality entertainment, then you are covered. The Market has a variety of entertainment throughout the day including various musicians, live cooking demonstrations, and dancers. There is always a stimulating environment present, even if stimulation is relaxing in a lawn chair for a couple of hours.

Community

Of all the things that are special about the Red River Market, likely the most clear is the overwhelming sense of community that one feels while attending. Being a part of something bigger, a group of people enjoying something together is truly amazing. Whether you like farmers’ markets or not, this event brings people together and on a consistent basis. It is something that we are truly grateful to have in our city.
